What Photography Is
2024
This project is inspired by theorist and art historian James Elkins’ book What Photography Is and comprises three large-format silver prints : the first encapsulates the entire text of the book in one single image. Next, the characters of the text are converted into binary digital code to create a black and white bitmap image, following the convention 1=black and 0=white. Lastly, this binary sequence is inserted into a JPEG file where it encodes the colors of the pixels.
